These lasers will bridge the pulse-duration-gap that exists between the outputs of modelocked lasers with pulse durations of >100ps, and actively Q-switched lasers with pulse durations > several ns, while reducing complexity and improving reliability compared to either.
This pulse duration region is matched to the requirements of remote-sensing applications that utilise SPAD detectors for ps time-resolved measurements. These short, high-energy pulses also offer MW peak powers that enable simple and efficient nonlinear conversion to other spectral regions of interest.
